Ένα Μονοπάτι με προορισμό το ... American Songwriting Contest!

Η Σημαία ως Σύμβολο και Έμπνευση: Μια Δημιουργική Συνάντηση

Η πρόσκληση του διαγωνισμού Red, White & Blue Lyric Promotion του American Songwriting Contest ήρθε απρόσμενα στο mail μου και έμοιαζε κάπως έτσι:

Μια μοναδική ευκαιρία να εκφραστούν μέσα από τη δύναμη των στίχων οι αξίες της ελευθερίας, της ανεξαρτησίας, της ενότητας και του πατριωτισμού — έννοιες διαχρονικές και βαθιά ριζωμένες στην καρδιά κάθε ανθρώπου που αγαπά και τιμά την πατρίδα του, μέσα στο πλαίσιο της Αμερικανικής κουλτούρας, όμως, λόγω της πατρότητας του διαγωνισμού. 

Αποφάσισα να στείλω κάτι. 

Αν και το θέμα ήταν ευρύ και προσφερόταν για πολλαπλές προσεγγίσεις, επέλεξα να εστιάσω σε ένα ιδιαίτερα συμβολικό στοιχείο — την σημαία — ένα  αδιάλειπτο σύμβολο αντοχής και ελπίδας, που υψώνεται και κυματίζει περήφανα, ακόμα και μέσα στις δυσκολίες και τις καταιγίδες. Το τραγούδι μου (στίχοι) “The Secret Spot – Where the Flag still flies”  αποτελεί μια προσωπική ωδή στον αόρατο αυτό φάρο της συλλογικής μας ψυχής, ενώ μιλά για το μυστικό εκείνο σημείο όπου το παρελθόν και το παρόν συναντιούνται, και η ελευθερία αναπνέει στον αέρα που γεμίζει το καλοκαίρι, όπως περιγράφεται στους στίχους.

Δεν υπήρξε κάποια διάκριση για μένα ανάμεσα στις χιλιάδες των συμμετοχών - μία μόνο κερδίζει την διάκριση ανάμεσα σε χιλιάδες...

To μοναδικό νικητήριο τραγούδι ήρθε από τον Wesley Tibbets που το έχει συμπεριλάβει στο σχετικό άλμπουμ του. 

Έμεινα, όμως, έκπληκτη και πολύ βαθιά συγκινημένη που, παρόλο που μόνο δυόμιση χρόνια ασχολούμαι  με την ελληνική  στιχουργία και λιγότερο με την αγγλική - αν και έστειλα εννοείται αγγλικούς στίχους - κατάφερα να αγγίξω και να εκφράσω την ίδια ακριβώς θεματική που ένας τόσο έμπειρος και καταξιωμένος songwriter στην Αμερική - ο Wesley Tibbets-  με μακρά πορεία και επιτυχημένη παρουσία απ'ότι είδα στη συνέχεια, αναδεικνύει στο έργο του παρότι με διαφορετική φωνή, εκφραστική γλώσσα και προοπτική. Και μάλιστα σε έναν διαγωνισμό που συγκεντρώνει χιλιάδες συμμετοχές ανά τον κόσμο. Διαβάζοντας κάποιος τους στίχους μπορεί εύκολα να διακρίνει τα κοινά εννοιολογικά ή και εκφραστικά στοιχεία ανάμεσα σε δυο τόσο διαφορετικά κατά τα άλλα στιχουργήματα.

Με άλλα λόγια υπάρχει ένας συντονισμός με τον παλμό ενός πολύ πιο έμπειρου δημιουργού ...

Αυτή η συνύπαρξη, αυτή η παράλληλη έκφραση, δημιουργεί έναν πλούσιο καλλιτεχνικό διάλογο, όπου διαφορετικές φωνές ενώνουν το πάθος και την έμπνευση για την ελευθερία και την πατριωτική έκφραση στο δημιουργικό πεδίο.

Επιπλέον, η αναγνώριση πως και το νικητήριο τραγούδι αγγίζει το ίδιο ακριβώς εμβληματικό θέμα δείχνει πώς κυκλοφορούν αόρατα οι δημιουργικές ιδέες μέσα από εντελώς αλλιώτικες προσεγγίσεις - πράγμα που έχει παρατηρηθεί και σε άλλους τομείς, όπως η επιστήμη και η έρευνα.

Εδώ θα βρείτε τους στίχους του νικητήριου τραγουδιού και την σύντομη συνεντευξή του, ενώ παρακάτω παραθέτω την δική μου συμμετοχή.

Αφού υπέβαλα τους στίχους στον διαγωνισμό Red, White & Blue Lyric Promotion έγινα και  μέλος της κοινότητας του American Songwriter. Η ένταξή μου αυτή αποτελεί για μένα ένα σημαντικό βήμα και πηγή έμπνευσης. Με φέρνει σε επαφή με μια διεθνή κοινότητα δημιουργών, όπου μπορώ να εξελιχθώ σταδιακά, να μάθω από έμπειρους καλλιτέχνες και να μοιραστώ τη φωνή μου με τον κόσμο.

 Είναι για μένα, πιθανόν, η αρχή ενός όμορφου ταξιδιού στην παγκόσμια στιχουργία.

A Path Leading to ... the American Songwriting Contest

The Flag as a Symbol and Inspiration: A Creative Encounter

The invitation to participate in the Red, White & Blue Lyric Promotion contest from the American Songwriting Contest unexpectedly landed in my inbox and looked something like this:

A unique opportunity to express, through the power of our lyrics, the values of freedom, independence, unity, and patriotism — timeless concepts deeply rooted in the heart of every person who loves and honors their homeland. Though the contest is centered around American culture, which feels quite familiar to me due to my studies and professional work.

I decided to submit something. While the theme was broad and open to multiple interpretations, I chose to focus on a particularly symbolic element — the flag — an enduring symbol of resilience and hope, flying proudly even through hardships and storms. My song (lyrics) “The Secret Spot – Where the Flag Still Flies” is a personal ode to this invisible beacon of our collective soul, speaking of that secret place where past and present meet, and freedom breathes in the summer air, as described in the lyrics.

There was no award for me among the thousands of entries. The  winning song came by Wesley Tibbets who has included it in his fourth album.

 Still, I am surprised and deeply moved that, despite having only been more actively involved in Greek songwriting for about two and a half years and less so in English — even though I obviously submitted English lyrics — I managed to touch and express the exact same theme as an experienced and acclaimed American songwriter like Wesley Tibbets, with his long and successful career, who presents it in his own unique voice, expressive language, and perspective. And all this in a contest that gathers thousands of participants worldwide. By reading the lyrics, one can easily discern the common conceptual and expressive elements between two otherwise very different compositions.

In other words, there is a resonance with the pulse of a creator with years of experience...

This coexistence, this parallel expression, creates a rich artistic dialogue, where different voices unite their passion and inspiration for freedom and patriotic expression within the creative field.

Moreover, the recognition that the winning song addresses the same iconic theme illustrates how creative ideas invisibly circulate through completely different approaches — a phenomenon also observed in other fields like science and research.

After submitting my lyrics to the Red, White & Blue Lyric Promotion Contest, I also became a member of the American Songwriter community. This membership represents an important milestone and source of inspiration for me. It connects me with an international community of creators where I can grow, learn from experienced artists, and share my voice with the world. For me, it marks the beginning of a beautiful journey in global songwriting.

And I wanted to share it with you.

to mark he once fought for peace-  it was not just a war.

my sister still cries : “I ’ll sure speak my mind! ”,

Mum once told her, “Truth and love ain’t hard to find.”

it’s mind and heart —it’s who we are.

Our people’s freedom’s written strong

in smile and  scar, in right and wrong.
